August 22, 1828 - December 6, 1904
David was born in a log cabin near Greenbush, Maine. His family were pioneers involved in the lumbering trade, market hunting, and farming.
At an early age, like his father and his brother before him, he took to the rivers to drive logs. By the time he was a young man, he was one of the most accomplished and respected boatmen and river drivers in Maine.
But, more than that, he was not the stereotypical lumberman, if there was such a thing. David had an appreciation for literature and books of all kinds. After the drive, if he went to Bangor, he didn't spend his pay on Exchange Street at the saloons, he went to the bookstores.
It is likely that his love for reading led to his ability to write so well. He was a frequent contributor to the national sportsmen's magazines and newspapers.
From Maine woodsman, lumberman, crafter of ships knees, Civil War soldier, miner in Nevada, and respected outdoor writer, David Stone Libbey lived a varied and dangerous life.
In this historical fiction novel, Maine Author, Tommy Carbone informs the reader, in an entertaining and captivating way, about this period of history.
